Pimping: Skip Beat! (vol. 1-9)
Next to Avatar, Skip Beat! is one the series that currently owns my heart and soul. The premise may sound ridiculous and melodramatic, but the characters and their relationships are wonderful and draw me into the story every time I so much as flip through a volume of the manga.
Quick! Grab my attention!
Revenge! Showbiz! Humour! Angst! Drama! Friendship! Romance! Curse dolls! Demonic auras! Giant chicken suits! Revenge!
( Gimme some plot! ) ( Tell me a bit more about these awesome characters! ) ( Tell me what makes these characters so wonderful together! ) ( I am still not convinced. Point me to more material about this series! ) ( You're trying to get me hooked on this series so I'll write fanfic for you, aren't you? )

Avatar
I ignored Avatar: The Last Airbender at first, thinking it was just another wannabe anime. When I finally caught an episode, I realized just how wrong I had been. Avatar is in a league of it's own. The characters are multidimensional, the stories alternately humourous and heartbreaking, and the animation gorgeous.
If you like epic struggles between good and evil; coming of age stories; love stories; myths; travel; comedy; stories of redemption; history and culture; beautifully detailed fight scenes--Avatar just may be the show for you.
I'm probably not the best person to pimp out a show (my memory for details is horrible!) but I love this show enough to try.
( IMAGE HEAVY )
There are tons of other incredible characters I didn't touch upon here; if you like what you saw here, there's a thorough Avatar selection at wikipedia. The first two seasons are available on DVD, and the third season is currently airing (in fact, I'm catching an episode on YTV tonight!)
All screencaps are from Iroh.org and whoresque.

GetBackers challenge
getbacksubrosa is a "guess the writer" challenge for GetBackers. I'm torn between GetBackers, yay! and the knowledge of my own limitations:
a) 1,000 word minimum. b) three springkink prompts to finish off before the end of this month. c) yuletide.
It feels like I haven't written anything GB-related in forever. Ack. Must worry over this a bit more.

Coffee Prince
I am completely addicted to this series. I raced through fifteen episodes in three days, and am nearly squirming in anticipation of the next two (and final) episodes. It’s not perfect, but by damn, it hit some of my kinks *hard.*
The story, in brief: Eun Chan is a young woman who is frequently mistaken as a boy, both due to general appearance, and her choice of clothing. She’s not too keen on this state of affairs, but being a boy helps her gets jobs--and she desperately needs the money in order to support her mother and younger sister.
Han Kyul is the son of a rich family, who has been living in America for some years. His grandmother, the head of the family business, is tired of Han Kyul’s irresponsible behaviour. It is, his family decides, time for Han Kyul to settle down with a nice girl, and a good career. If he won’t do anything on that front on his own initiative, his grandmother will push him into responsible adulthood.
Eun Chan and Han Kyul meet several times--and not in the best of circumstances--before the plot really kicks in. In order to sink his grandmother’s matchmaking plans, Han Kyul hires Eun Chan (whom he believes to be a young man) to play his gay lover. In increasingly desperate monetary circumstances, she agrees.
Their plan proves successful--the girls his grandmother chose for Han Kyul are put off by his “homosexual” relationship, and the matchmaking fizzles. Not deterred, Grandmother puts plan B into motion: Han Kyul is to manage a run-down coffee shop, and triple it’s profits within three months. If not, he can say goodbye to his car and his appartment.
Han Kyul takes up the challenge after some initial resistance. He decides to remake the shop as “Coffee Prince,” and to attract a young, female crowd by hiring handsome young men. Eun Chan seems to fit the bill, and is Han Kyul’s first hire.
There is a secondary relationship drama (and love triangles) going on with Han Kyul’s cousin Han Sung, and his on-again, off-again girlfriend, Yoo Jun. For the most part, Han Sung and Yoo Jun’s relationship a) annoyed me, b) bored me, although I did begin to find them a little bit adorable at the end of the series.
The other “princes” at the coffee shop also get some minor storylines of their own. There is Harim, an old friend of Han Kyul’s, and a dorky playboy. Min Yeop, big, pure-hearted, dim, and desperately in love with Eun Chan’s younger sister, Eun Sae. Sun Gi, the Japanese waffle guy who came to Korea in search of his lost love. Manager Hong is a friend to Eun Chan and her mother, and the original manager of the coffee shop.
Together, they fight crime! serve coffee!
I hardly know how to put my love for these characters into words. So, I’ll go with a few quick moments I loved.

I watched the subbed episodes at MySoju.com, and while I had some issues with the translation (some of the verb tense, sentence structure, and pronoun use), it’s well worth checking out.

The Wallflower: tip of an autumn hair
Written for the 31_days theme exchange.
Leaves crunched quite satisfactorily beneath Sunako’s boots. Sunako looked at the bare branches arched overhead, and smiled. Autumn, Sunako thought, was nice.
She kicked at a pile of leaves. They rose in the breeze momentarily, only to drift back towards the ground. Falling was inevitable. Sunako approved.
She pulled a leaf from her hair, and twirled it’s stem between her fingertips. “Beautiful.”
The creatures of the light drew in a great breath, and spoke as one: “Suanko-chan has been won over by the beauty of nature!”
The leaf in Sunako’s hand trembled, and crumbled to dust. “Everything is beautiful as it dies,” Sunako said, dreamy.
The creatures of the light turned grey, and wilted before her.

Storm Hawks
memlu pimped Storm Hawks a while back, and since the show is shiny, and funny, and adorkable, I got hooked. If you like 'toons with quality animation, teamwork, and a hilariously inept villain (hello, Dark Ace!) give memlu's post a go.
